The 50th overall pick in 2008 played 52 games with the OHL's Ontario Reign last season, scoring two goals and seven assists.
The 33-year-old has played 37 career NHL games.
Gaunce is known more for the physicality he brings to the table than his point-scoring ability. He has racked up 884 penalty minutes over 13 seasons in the AHL.
Gaunce has had stints in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Dallas Stars. He has yet to play a game yet this year and looks to crack the Marlies squad.
