Brad Treliving is only in his second day as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, yet is making headlines everywhere. As GM of one of the NHL's most popular franchises, fans have been speculating to no end what his first move might be, and they might have just found it.
Treliving to Bring in Stone?
Brad Treliving has had tenures in both Arizona and Calgary before making his newest stop in Toronto. During his time in both Arizona and Calgary, Treliving has become quite familiar with defenseman Micahel Stone, as the two have been together for 13 of the 15 seasons Treliving was in those front offices.
Must read on Daily Hockey Dose
Treliving has signed Stone to a total of five contracts during his time in Calgary, so clearly he likes something about the player and person. Stone is a free agent this summer, and perhaps Treliving could make a push to acquire him once again.
Michael Stone is a right-handed defenseman, and the Leafs are already very full at defense. Perhaps Trelving will forgo re-signing
Justin Holl, another right-handed defenseman, in favor of bringing in Stone.
Holl has often been the scapegoat of Leafs fans and for good reason. He's constantly making bad plays, while younger players get scratched night after night.
Stone has family ties in Calgary, so there is the chance he refuses to leave the Flames, but it's not guaranteed that new Flames GM Craig Conroy offers him a contract. Perhaps we could see Stone join the Leafs this summer.
