Nearly three months have passed since Brad Treliving was hired for the role of General Manager for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

His impact over the summer has been significant.

A Summer of Signings

Treliving started his tenure by securing contracts with key players, including Max Domi, John Klingberg, Ryan Reaves, and Tyler Bertuzzi.
In addition, he extended existing contracts for important players like Ilya Samsonov and Auston Matthews.
Despite the noteworthy additions, we can't help but notice that Treliving has yet to execute a single trade in his new role.
Is one on the horizon?

Is a Trade in the Works?

When it comes to trading, Treliving has various options, ranging from clearing cap space to a blockbuster deal.
The Leafs possess the assets to make a substantial trade, and Treliving's inaugural deal could be as momentous as sending William Nylander elsewhere.
That said, the Leafs are currently over the salary cap, making it likely that any trade would involve a money dump. If that happens, Nylander probably won't be involved.
One of the areas left to bolster is the defense. Even with the recent acquisition of Simon Benoit, many would love to see Treliving get a star defenseman that would drastically change the landscape at the blue line.
Would you like to see Treliving trade for a top defenseman before the start of the season?
