The Maple Leafs have been off to a less than ideal start this season and now blame is starting to go around. Whenever teams suddenly start underperforming the head coach is often the first to bear the blame and now one NHL insider believes Sheldon Keefe will get the boot before the end of the year.

Berger Predicts Keefe Will Be Fired By The Leafs In 2023

NHL radio show host Howard Berger made the bold prediction today that the Leafs will fire Sheldon Keefe before the end of the Calendar year. The team is currently 5th place in the Atlantic division with a 10-6-3 record.
It won't be entirely his fault, but Sheldon Keefe cannot last with an AHL-caliber blue line and unproven goaltending. #Leafs will have a new coach by January 1. #LeafsForever
Berger does note that Keefe can only do so much about the team's goaltending and depleted blue line. It could be argued that Edmonton's Jay Woodcroft was fired this year for essentially the same problem, which was largely out of his control.

Maple Leafs Fans Believe Keefe Should Be Fired

Not only does Berger believe Keefe will be fired, but a growing number of fans online seem to be growing old of the coach.
I refuse to believe #LeafsForever will win anything (Conference title, Presidents trophy, Stanley Cup) under Sheldon Keefe.

I've watched a version of todays game WAY too many times. One game this year (VAN) where I could see a potential Cup contender.
Sheldon Keefe does NOT get the most out of this team.
He's not a good coach.
Some fans have gone as far as to side with Berger completely, thinking that Keefe will get fired at some point this season.
Looking at the Atlantic division standings - 18 games in the #LeafsForever have FIVE regulation wins TOTAL. They are like 3-4 goals away from being seriously underwater and Sheldon Keefe getting fired. Talk about living on a prayer.
The Leafs have certainly underperformed so far this season. How much of that you can blame on Keefe is hard to say. Regardless though, if the team does not improve soon, it may very well be Keefe that goes first.
