An NHL insider suggests the Toronto Maple Leafs might target two defensemen for acquisition, possibly from the Calgary Flames.

Leafs Lose Another Defenseman to Injury

During a recent game, the Maple Leafs lost defenseman Mark Giordano to an upper-body injury. Coach Sheldon Keefe indicated Giordano could be sidelined for a while.
Keefe says it looks like Giordano is going to miss some time. Doesn't have a final report on his upper-body injury just yet.
Facing a shortage of defensemen, the Leafs are reportedly exploring trade options to bolster their defensive lineup. Frank Seravalli noted that the team might afford two significant defensemen in a potential deal.
Potential trade targets include Nikita Zadorov and Chris Tanev from the Calgary Flames. Although acquiring both Calgary's top defensemen seems improbable, GM Brad Treliving might propose a substantial offer if needed.
The complete list of defensemen the Leafs might consider trading for includes:
1. Chris Tanev, Calgary Flames
2. Andrew Peeke, Columbus Blue Jackets
3. Alexandre Carrier, Nashville Predators
4. Nikita Zadorov, Calgary Flames
5. Will Borgen, Seattle Kraken
6. Mario Ferraro, San Jose Sharks
7. Travis Sanheim, Philadelphia Flyers
Although it's unlikely that Treliving will secure both Flames defensemen, this scenario presents a strategic opportunity for Calgary. Even though their current season isn't over, trading their defensive assets could offer a substantial long-term benefit instead of a short-term risk.
The trade deadline isn't until March, but already potential partners for the #Flames are seeing needs to be filled. Is it already time for Calgary to catch the trade winds?
