The Leafs are strong in their top-end talent but should be looking at this free agent to bolster their depth scoring.

Leafs Known for Top-End Talent But Need Long-Term Plan For Depth Scoring

The Leafs have been known for the last several seasons for their top-end talent in the core four. However, they have also been the victim of a lack of depth scoring. They tried to address this issue during the offseason by adding Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi. However, if this solution doesn't work out, they should be ready with a contingency plan.

This is especially important as both of these players are on 1-year deals with the Leafs. If they can't get it done this year, there is no telling whether or not they will have good depth for the long-term future.

Leafs Should Look Overseas at Top Free Agent For Depth Scoring

If the Leafs are interested in adding depth scoring for the long term, they should consider former NHLer Dmitrij Jaskin. Jaskin previously played 315 games in the NHL and played last season in the KHL.
Last year in the KHL, Jaskin was captain of SKA St. Petersburg and put up 62 points in 67 games. The 30-year-old is off to a hot start this year as well with Ak Bars Kazan, scoring 11 points in 8 games. It's rumoured that Jaskin was interested in making a return to the NHL, and the Leafs may be able to offer him a spot in their bottom six.
