The Toronto Maple Leafs have dealt with injuries all season long on their blue line, and now, it appears things may be getting even worse for another key veteran.
Mark Giordano suffers a tough injury
The Maple Leafs have already seen both Timothy Liljegren and John Klingberg go down, so when Mark Giordano suffered a broken finger against the Florida Panthers, things got significantly worse.
Originally, Giordano was seen as 'week-to-week', with fears that he may miss up to four-to-six weeks, but not being put on LTIR gave some fans hope that he could tough it out.
The injury to the veteran could be worse than initially feared
While there's been no official update on the injury itself, the Maple Leafs have now placed him on LTIR, meaning that he'll miss at least 24 games due to league policy around Long Term Injury Reserve.
This is a brutal hit to the Leafs defensive stocks, and could force their hand on pursuing the likes of Chris Tanev or Noah Hanifin, and while he's not producing offensively the way he once did, Gio has been a key part of this Leafs team, and his absence, however long will certainly be noticed.
