A recent report claims that should the Leafs decide to move Nylander ahead of the final year of his contract, and the Red Wings are interested in acquiring him, the Leafs will ask for Calder Trophy-winning defenseman Moritz Seider. That's no small ask, but we trust that Brad Treliving knows what he's doing.
Once you get past the initial shock of reading this report, you have to wonder if Seider's name has been floated by Yzerman in trade talks already, if his name is being put in reports like this. How would it be known that Treliving would pursue Seider unless his name has already been included in trade talks?
Another question to ask is whether this trade would be 1-for-1, or if there would be more assets involved. While fans of both teams could certainly argue that one has more value than the other, the real answer is likely only known by the GMs.
