Jones Finds Out His Future In Toronto
After being placed on waivers yesterday the Toronto Maple Leafs organization waited anxiously to see if Martin Jones would be claimed. After a long 24 hours the Maple Leafs can now breathe a sigh of relief.
Martin Jones clears waivers and will likely head to the #Marlies (at least on paper). Good news for the #Leafs to have a veteran third goalie.

As reported by Michael Augello Jones has cleared waivers and is now expected to report to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. This is a huge relief for the Maple Leafs heading into the upcoming season.
While goaltenders
Ilya Samsonov and
Joseph Woll showed fantastic flashes last season there is still a worry of consistency with both. Samsonov is coming off of a career year and there is a potential for a fall back to his former self. With Woll, most of the concern is over inexperience due to only a few NHL starts.
Having Martin Jones in the AHL now allows for the Maple Leafs to have some insurance in case either Samsonov or Woll struggles. Particularly in the case of Woll if he struggles they could call up Jones and send Woll back to the AHL to continue growing.
For now, the Maple Leafs have an embarrassment of riches in the goalie department which is a fantastic problem to have.
