NHL Insider Provides Major Update In Nylander Contract Negotiations
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a big decision ahead of them as William Nylander will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
NHL Insider Gives Major Update In Nylander Negotiations
Today we got a major update in Nylander's contract negotiations from NHL insider Pierre Lebrun. He told us that we are not hearing any rumors for a reason, both sides agreed not to leak information.
"The thing about it is that it's been quiet by design. Both sides made a pact before the season started. They did not want any leaks whatsoever. Both sides want to be tight-lipped and that's exactly the way it's played out so far."

LeBrun continued by clarifying that the Leafs and Nylander are indeed currently engaged in contract negotiations. Some fans wondered if they were waiting until after the season since we have not heard anything.
"The reality is, the dialogue is ongoing. My understanding is both sides keep going back and forth. They hope to get something done between now and July 1st, but it's a difficult contract to get done."
Nylander Pricing Himself Out Of Toronto?
There's no denying how good Nylander has been this year. He leads the team in scoring with 22 points and he is yet to go a game without recording at least one point. His 15-game point streak is a Leafs record to start the season.
LeBrun does comment on this, but he suggests that Leafs fans shouldn't be too worried about it.
"William Nylander has been spectacular, his salary leverage keeps going up, but the Leafs, also, keep dealing with the salary cap."
Nylander was due a significant raise over his 6.9 million dollar cap hit before his hot start to the season. Now he's easily looking like he could be another 10 million dollar forward. Having four eight-digit contracts on the same team could make navigating the hard cap even harder than it has been, but if the cap increases by the projected 4 million dollars this season then perhaps the team can make it work.
