The Toronto Maple Leafs came into this season already thin on defense. Now the team is looking exceptionally thin on the blueline as injuries have devastated the team. Now it appears as though a new trade target has emerged for the team.

Leafs Looking At Kraken Defenseman As Trade Option?

It is no secret that the Leafs have been looking to add a defenseman or two via trade. The team was rumored to be on Calgary's Nikita Zadorov before he ultimately went to the Canucks. Now the team may be eyeing one underrated Kraken blueliner in Will Borgen. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported recently that the team is looking to add a right shot defender with an edge.
Elliotte Friedman was reporting on 32TP that the Leafs are targeting RHD with an edge. I wonder if they will be keeping tabs on Will Borgen
Borgen fits that description quite well. He has 394 career hits in 161 games at the NHL level, making him one of the more physical defenders in the league, especially considering he only averages 16 minutes of ice time per game so far in his young career.
Some within the NHL media community believe that the Kraken are willing to move Borgen, as well as a number of their other defensemen as the team has not lived up to expectations this year.
The Leafs certainly need to do something to help on defense before the season slips away from them. Whether or not Borgen is the answer remains to be seen.
