A few weeks have passed, and Friedman has offered a new perspective on the matter.
"I do believe he's being sincere when he says he wants to be a Leaf for the rest of his career. I believe that's where his mind is at. We're at an impasse about what each side thinks the numbers should look like... but I haven't gotten the sense that anything is particularly close at this time."
Nylander's Intentions
Nylander shared to Friedman his desire to stay in Toronto for his whole career.
Should his intentions be genuine, a deal could materialize soon...
If financial issues are the only obstacle, and Nylander is committed to staying with the Leafs, it wouldn't be shocking if he waits until the last minute to ink the deal, in hopes to force Treliving's hand to give him more money.
If they can't reach a deal, a trade at the deadline may be inevitable. Such a move could give the Leafs an opportunity to acquire a top-tier defenseman just in time for the playoffs...
Do you think Nylander will still be in Toronto after the trade deadline?
