Reporter Indicates Maple Leafs Top Prospect Could Be On The Trade Block
A recent report has suggested that the Toronto Maple Leafs are willing to part with one of their top prospects. This news comes after the Maple Leafs continue to have more and more holes to fill on their roster.
Maple Leafs Top Prospect Potentially On The Trade Block
A new report from a respected NHL journalist has indicated the Toronto Maple Leafs could be willing to go all in this season. There have reportedly been discussions involving top prospect and current Maple Leaf Matthew Knies.
Jonas Siegel of The Athletic mentions F Matthew Knies as a potential trade piece if the Maple Leafs were to move any players from their prospect pool and make a trade to bolster their roster for a playoff run.

Siegel believes that the Maple Leafs value other players in their system more than Knies at the moment. This makes him expendable in a trade for goaltending or more defensive depth which has plagued the Maple Leafs this season.
Who Is Still Untouchable For The Maple Leafs?
Siegel continued to talk about the Maple Leafs prospects. He doesn't believe Matthew Knies is untouchable but does believe a couple of other top prospects are.
He notes that Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten & Dennis Hildeby are likely untouchables and while Knies likely won't be moved, he will be someone many GM's would ask for in return.
Cowan and Minten showed flashes of high-end play in their appearances on the Leafs roster in the preseason and in Minten's case his limited trial in the NHL. Both players are now at World Junior Championships representing Canada. While both of these players have shown flashes of NHL potential neither has shown the elite flashes of skill seen from Knies.
One thing is for sure the Maple Leafs need reinforcements. They will need to send out a good prospect or two in the process. It will be interesting to see if Knies and his potential ends up being sacrificed for more NHL-caliber talent immediately.
