After scoring 40 goals a season ago, it appears the Leafs are looking at a massive move, and according to a recent report, that could net them the reigning Norris Trophy winner.
The San Jose Sharks
According to Eklund of Hockey Buzz, the Maple Leafs had interest from the Islanders, but are now focusing in on the San Jose Sharks and acquiring Erik Karlsson.
The Sharks like the deal the Leafs put forth for Karlsson, but Toronto needs to move Nylander first. The Islanders like Nylander, but the deal has to make cap sense. The Penguins and Canes are ready to deal for Karlsson, but San Jose doesn't like those trades as much, and appear willing to wait for the Leafs... for now.
The report also states that Carolina and Pittsburgh still have interest in Karlsson, but the Sharks have zoned in on Nylander and the Maple Leafs, and now, it's becoming a genuine possibility that a move here is made.
