Ryan Reaves is one of the NHL's more controversial players. He is well known as an enforcer who is not really that good at actually playing hockey. Tonight his skillset was on full display again as he made a dangerous hit on a young Bruins player.
Reaves Boards Bruins Star Rookie
While Matthew Poitras likely won't get much love for the Calder trophy in a year where Connor Bedard, Logan Cooley, and Pavel Mintyukov are all rookies, he has been a steady contributor for the Bruins this year. He has 11 points in 22 games including five goals, Not too bad for a 19-year-old playing in his first season in the league.
The rookie still has some lesson to learn though. Tonight he learned never to keep your back turned to the ice for an extended period of time, especially when Ryan Reaves is on the ice.
Reaves received a minor penalty for boarding on the play, which he clearly did not like.
Regardless, the call stood. It was boarding by the rulebook, but he certainly slowed up on the hit. Reaves could have hit him much harder, although that could have gotten him into bigger trouble. The Leafs are currently down 3-2 with just over 5 minutes left in the game.
