Ilya Samsonov has not been good for the Leafs at all this season and was sent down to the Marlies in the AHL, he has finally broke the silence on being sent down.
Samsonov's Shocking Statement About Being Sent Down
Samsonov has stayed relatively quiet since being sent down and prior to being sent down you could tell Samsonov had lost faith in his game and needed a reboot.
Ilya Samsonov on his reaction to being waived by the Maple Leafs: "You're sad, yeah? But it's nice signal for your brain and your body: Man, you need to wake up and get back on track and working hard as you can."
Samsonov has been called back up the Leafs and is expected to backup Martin Jones this evening against the New York Islanders.
Samsonovs Terrible Start To The Year With The Leafs
The 26-year-old goalie looked like he was going to be the start for years to come with Leafs after winning the starting job over Matt Murray last season.
However after at 5-2-6 record with a 3.94 goals against average and 0.862 save percentage it was a clear sign he was not ready to be the full time starter in Toronto.
He got sent down to the Marlies to try and get his game back in order. He never played a game with the Marlies but maybe the scare of being sent down was enough for the Russian goalie to spark his game back to life.
With Joseph Woll out with an injury Martin Jones is the current starter of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
