In the midst of all of the Dubas and Shanahan drama, one element of the situation has been largely ignored. That element is Sheldon Keefe, the Leafs' current head coach, who was hired by Dubas after the firing of Mike Babcock.
Keefe Has Interest in New York
Sheldon Keefe's job security is not looking great as of right now, and if a new general manager thinks that it's time for a change behind the bench, Keefe could be out the door. In the event that he is fired, Keefe could look to hop over to the Metro division, where the New York Rangers currently have a coaching vacancy.

The Rangers are looking for a coach with some NHL experience, and Keefe definitely fits that build. He's spent the last couple of years coaching superstars like Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares, and the Rangers hope that he could bring some more out of a guy like
Artemi Panarin.
Does Keefe Have Enough Experience?
Keefe's fit for the Rangers' coaching job will all come down to how much experience they're looking for in a coach. If the Rangers want a seasoned veteran behind the bench, then Keefe's not your guy, but if they are ok with his few years of NHL and AHL coaching experience, then he might just be a fit.
If the Rangers are fine with Keefe's experience and he's available, it wouldn't be shocking to see the two parties talk. Especially if the Rangers' first option, Mike Sullivan, isn't available. We'll have to wait and see, but things look like they're about to get interesting.
