The Toronto Maple Leafs are in major need of goaltending help, and according to a Maple Leafs radio host, that help may just be on the way in the form of a big surprise.
Radio Host gives yet another shocking prediction
After correctly calling the William Nylander extension a week before it happened, Nick Kypreos is back again, and this time, he's got a bombshell regarding veteran net minder Matt Murray.
"As mentioned in my notes a few weeks ago, goaltender Matt Murray is working himself back with the Leafs this season. He's on schedule to rejoin the team after the trade deadline and is expected to play some games before the regular season ends. The Leafs have not ruled out the potential of re-signing him." - Kypreos on Murray
While many people expect Murray to push for a return in 2023-24, this is the first that many are hearing of a potential extension, a deal that would certainly come as a major shocker for most Maple Leafs fans.
Could Murray be the player to help Toronto's troubles?
Joseph Woll has been solid this season, but injury issues have kept him from being the dominant No. 1 that Toronto had hoped for, and with neither Martin Jones or Ilya Samsonov stealing that job away from him, Murray may be just the man to do it.
There's certainly been links to Jacob Markstrom, John Gibson and some other veteran names, but after posting a 3.01 GAA and a .903 as a member of the Maple Leas a year ago, Murray may be just the cheap option they are looking for.
