Toronto Maple Leafs' star Auston Matthews made shocking comments on Montreal Canadiens' fans following last night's 4-2 Leafs win.
Montreal is known to be one of the most iconic franchises in hockey. Many legends wore that uniform in their rich history, made possible partially by all the dedicated fans.
Players said it many times, it's not easy to play in Montreal. Fans usually boo whenever a star player or a former member of the Canadiens' organization comes to the Bell Center and touches the puck. For many, it's a form or recognition of their talent.
On Saturday night, that's exactly what happened. Former Habs' Max Domi and Leafs' star Auston Matthews were booed by fans whenever they were in possession of the puck.
Many reporters covering the Leafs didn't like the fans' hostility and it was widely criticized in Toronto's papers.
In his post-game press conference, Matthews shared his honest opinion on Canadiens' fans. What he said surprised many people:
Auston Matthews on being booed in Montreal tonight:
"Honestly, I kind of find it like a tone of respect, I guess, especially in a building like this and a big time hockey city and fan base. So, I don't mind (smile). I don't mind at all."
Matthews' comment shows a lot of maturity. It's not the first time that he plays in Montreal, and he seems ready for many more matchups in that arena.
