There is no denying that Auston Matthews had an incredible season this year, and even though he didn't hit the 70-goal marker in his final game against the Lightning, 69 goals is still widely impressive for any player to achieve. Obviously, it would have been great for him to hit it, however, he shared his thoughts on what it meant to him after the game, placing the team's performance ahead of his own.
There is no question that Matthews wanted to hit 70 goals, he is the league's best goal-scorer and an insane competitor. You don't achieve this level of success without having the hunger to go for more every year. However, it is obvious too that Matthews is on the hunt for something else, and that is post-season success.
Now, Matthews and the Leafs face the challenge of continuing their success from last year's post-season into this year when they dance with the Boston Bruins. The matchup is sure to be gritty and tough, especially given how the last matchup in the regular season went between the two teams.
