Chris Tanev has been on the Maple Leafs radar ever since GM Brad Treliving took over the role, and this off-season, they finally landed their man as a free agent from the Dallas Stars. There was plenty that went into the decision for Tanev, but now he's surprisingly revealed that taxes played a big role in leaving Dallas and returning to Canada after 14-years spent in his home country.
That wasn't the only reason however, as he and his family are all from Canada, and now, the veteran has the opportunity to finally represent his home of Ontario after 14 years spent in British Columbia and Alberta. After many years of playing on teams that simply weren't contending, Tanev revealed the Maple Leafs goal of a Stanley Cup is a shared one, and part of the reason why he allowed himself to leave Dallas and return home.
Now, the 34-year old is in the final years of his Stanley Cup window, and with the loaded forward group and the much improved blue line, 2024/25 will give the Maple Leafs as good an opportunity as anyone to go deep in the playoffs.
