Current status of Mitch Marner situation in Toronto officially revealed

For months now, all we've heard about in Toronto is their willingness to move Mitch Marner, but in recent weeks, it appears as though the tides are turning. After comments made by Head Coach Craig Berube about wanting to coach the star forward, the latest update on the situation has revealed that the most likely outcome right now is that the team head into the 2024/25 season with Marner on their roster.

According to reports a month ago, No. 16 has been willing to honour the final year of his deal, and with a new Coach in Berube, it appears as though things are improving between the two parties. Now, a report from The Hockey Writers confirms that Marner staying in Toronto is right now a likely outcome, with the two sides still looking to push for a Stanley Cup with the beloved core four in tact.

There's still plenty of time for the team to look for a trade, and if the season doesn't start well, a trade deadline move can't be ruled out, but if the two sides go into the season in discussions of an extension like we saw with William Nylander a year ago, there's optimism that a deal can be made.
