Joseph Woll got injured in December and was finally back between the pipes for a game. The Leafs management decided to loan him to the Marlies for conditioning purposes and he performed incredibly well against the Laval Rocket, who didn't make it easy on him.
Now that he proved his readiness to come back with the Maple Leafs, the situation will be interesting to follow in next few days.
Per Elliotte Friedman:
"Joseph Woll. Close? Yes. He played last night for the Toronto Marlies in Laval, and he was very good. 36 of 37 saves.

And not only that, but Laval did not make his night very easy for a player in his first game after a high ankle sprain, Laval made it tough on him. They knew everybody would be watching, and those players sure did their best to get noticed.

And, he was very good. They didn't play him today, but he's very close, and we'll see what Toronto does in goal. They've got a couple days to figure this out. They go with three. Do they go with two? But Woll is close."
The Maple Leafs will need to make decisions. They could decide to go with a three-goalie rotation, considering that Martin Jones and Ilya Samsonov have been playing well lately. Or, a trade could also materialize, as many teams in the NHL are looking for a goalie.
We can't wait to see if Woll is truly ready to be the Leafs' number one goalie.
