NHL insider Elliotte Friedman just revealed that there is likely more going on with Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews causing him to miss important games this series against the Bruins.

Every Leaf fan is worried about the whereabouts of Auston Matthews. The story from Sheldon Keefe and the Leafs' management is that he is dealing with an illness that has been lingering throughout the series. However, that hasn't convinced insider Elliotte Friedman, who revealed he believes that there is more going on.
"Recognizing that these are the playoffs and we're not going to know exactly what happened until it's over, I don't think this is [illness related]. An illness doesn't last like this, so I think something else developed in the aftermath, whether it be something the fallout from that or an injury - obviously we're not going to know before the Maple Leafs finish their run, but I don't believe that this is the illness [that is keeping Matthews out of the lineup for Game 5]."
In reality, we won't know what is going on with Matthews until after the playoffs are over. Obviously, being the competitor that he is, there is an argument to be made that this isn't just a cold.
No Auston Matthews tonight for the Maple Leafs.

Team is saying illness, feels like something more significant to keep a star player out of a potential elimination game.
Unfortunately for Leaf fans, if they can't pull it out tonight, they might not be able to see Matthews until next season.
