The insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that Max Pacioretty spent the whole summer training in Toronto before signing his professional tryout contract.

One of the most surprising moves in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization has been the acquisition of Max Pacioretty.
The former Montreal Canadiens captain waited until just a few days ago before signing the deal with the Leafs. However, according to Elliotte Friedman, it was a long time coming.
Indeed, he confirmed on the recent 32 Thoughts episode that he saw Pacioretty this summer in Toronto. At the time, he didn't make any connections but realized that he was probably already skating and working out with the Leafs.
In his own words:
"I took my wife and son to see 'Pink' this summer at the Rogers Centre, and we walked into Pacioretty on the street. I said hi to him, and he kind of gave me the 'oh, I'm here visiting some friends,' and I really didn't think much of it because I was with my family. That one smacked me right in my face, and I totally missed it that, obviously, he was here skating and working out for the Leafs at that time."
It's no secret that Pacioretty is expected to bring offensive depth to the lineup, but everything will be determined in the training camp, as confirmed by general manager Brad Treliving, who also stated that they hope to create a competitive environment for the camp:
"Our expectation is he's going to come in, he gives us more depth," Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving said Thursday. "All that stuff's going to sort itself out at camp, right? I know we all get excited when we see guys out here, but to me, what we're trying to do is make our roster as deep as possible.

"I think there's going to be lots of people pushing for jobs. Where everybody fits and who they fit with, Craig (Berube) and the coaching staff will figure it out. I'm just trying to give them as many options as we possibly can. But we're excited to see Max, get him up to speed."
