The Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs seem destined to make a trade ahead of the March 8 trade deadline, but there's one major road block potentially preventing a deal.

Craig Conroy hesitant to deal with former Calgary Flames GM

As we know, this past summer Brad Treliving left the Calgary Flames after making some horrendous moves, and he would ultimately land as the new General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
According to Sportsnet's Eric Francis, some resentment and hesitation is now present in the Flames front office, as they would likely prefer not to do business with the former Flames GM.
"If you're the Calgary Flames ownership group and you have a chance to trade this guy [Chris Tanev] to any team in the league and your General Manager comes in a says 'you know that guy that walked out the door last year and kind of left us high and dry to a degree, maybe we don't deal with him.' I think that might be a small part of it.

I think [Craig] Conroy is scared to deal with the guy that kind of mentored him... I think there's a real fear to deal with the Leafs. If you make a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs and you end up losing that trade or if the Leafs go on to win the Stanley Cup, that trade is remembered forever and ever and you're forever tied to that misstep. I think there is a bit of a hesitance to deal with the Leafs."

Will the Maple Leafs land either Chris Tanev or Noah Hanifin?

Thus far in his tenure however, Conroy has shown to be patient and will wait to find the best deal possible as he did when he moved Elias Lindholm to Vancouver, and if the best deal is from Toronto, he could certainly pull the trigger.
However, if there's competing offers, it's clear that the former Flames player turned GM would prefer to not deal with Toronto, so unless they step up and blow him away, a trade between the two seems unlikely at this point.
