Former Leaf reportedly names a few players who will never win a Stanley Cup
According to the Empty Netters Podcast, former Maple Leaf Ryan O'Reilly named players he believes will never win a Stanley Cup.
If anyone knows about what it takes to win a Stanley Cup, it is a player who has done it before. NHL veteran forward Ryan O'Reilly, after a decade playing with the Colorado Avalanche and Buffalo Sabres, finally made his dream come true with the St. Louis Blues in 2019, also getting award the Conn Smythe Trophy.
After a few more less fruitful seasons in St. Louis, Ryan O'Rielly seemed hopeful for an improvement with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Yet, after losing in the playoffs again, the veteran forward opted to not stay with the team the following year. Instead, he signed a deal with the Nashville Predators, stating their loss to the Florida Panthers as a key issue.
"I'm still upset about getting beat by Florida the way we did."
However, it seems this playoffs anger goes deeper for the former Leaf. According to an account on the Empty Netters Podcast, Ryan O'Rielly slammed a few players' names in a rant to Toronto management before exclaiming his desire to leave the franchise.
"I was talking to someone who knows Ryan O'Reilly very well, and he had talked about his time in Toronto and was like, 'certain people on this Toronto team will ne- ' He like, went to management and was like 'Blank, blank, and blank will never win, and I don't want to be here anymore,' And he's not saying that about the people in his locker room right now."
There has been no mention of which players Ryan O'Rielly called out, but having a Stanley Cup under his belt, he is likely right about whoever they may be. Hopefully, before too long, the Toronto Maple Leafs can purge these liabilities from the roster.
