An interesting option emerged to replace the Toronto Maple Leafs captain and number two center, John Tavares.

After the next season, the Maple Leafs' captain, John Tavares, is set to become a free agent. He currently has a year left on his $11M AAV contract signed in 2018.
If he ends up leaving the Leafs organization, Brad Treliving will need to name a new captain (Auston Matthews) and also find a new number two center. While interesting prospects will be closer to the NHL, Treliving should think about adding some depth at this position.
A new report suggested that Nazem Kadri could go back to the team that drafted him in 2009 and become the Leafs' number two center.

David Pagnotta recently revealed that Kadri would be willing to waive his no-trade clause to move somewhere closer to home.
Here's what the insider said:
"My understanding with respect to (Kadri) is that he's willing to waive (the no-move clause) for the right situation. I think he would welcome a return to Colorado or farther East, somewhere closer to home."

However, Pagnotta also added that a return to Colorado would be tough to make happen, given the Avs' current financial situation.
Treliving was the Flames' GM when Kadri signed his contract. If the Flames manage to put their feelings aside and agree to make a deal with the Leafs, Kadri could be interested in returning to Toronto.
