Sheldon Keefe called out captain John Tavares after their recent loss to the Devils, and now the veteran forward has responded to the public criticism.
The 2023-24 campaign has been without much drama for the star-studded Toronto Maple Leafs, but with the playoffs approaching, it appears that is now changing.
Unsurprisingly, the veteran captain responded on Wednesday, and as we expected, handled the criticism with class and maturity;
Tavares on Keefe mentioning him yesterday as one of the players who got carried away with their play last night: "I think, especially the captain, you really want to be at the top of the list for of being accountable and setting the standard and the way we need to play."
It wasn't only Tavares that Keefe called out, with Auston Matthews being called out too for making big mistakes when the veterans need to be leaders, and now we wait and see if the public criticism works.
