The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some major additions this summer, but with changes in the front office, it could force a drastic move from Brendan Shanahan.
For years now, Brendan Shanahan and the Maple Leafs front office have coasted on the potential of their core four, but with big changes already coming to the top of the Leafs organization, that may now turn to panic. There have been reports that President of Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan is on the hot seat, and recent speculation has now linked him to making a drastic move to keep his job.
That could mean only one of two things; Shanahan could push the team to break up the famed core four, or could end up with the team trading significant draft capital or one of their top prospects (Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten, Matthew Knies) to improve this team. Unsurprisingly, that speculation would result in a power struggle with GM Brad Treliving, who has only been in power for two years, meaning that his job is likely safe moving forward.
Simply put, the Maple Leafs have tried to make changes to their lineup, but nothing has worked come playoff time, so with his back to the wall, don't be surprised if Brendan Shanahan looks to do something dramatic to save his job before the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
