Evgeni Malkin has stated he would like to retire in Russia, instead of in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Malkin has formed one of the best 1-2 punches down the middle the NHL has ever seen, as he and fellow superstar Sidney Crosby have lead the Penguins to three Stanley Cups during their tenure in Pittsburgh.
However, news recently broke that Malkin would prefer to finish his career in Russia, like fellow countryman Alex Ovechkin, instead of with the Penguins.
"It's hard to make plans about a return," he said. "I still have two years left on my contract with Pittsburgh. I need to play these two years and see how it goes. The main thing is no injuries, and if, as Pavel Datsyuk says, there's a fire burning, you can't go out and do the number without it."

Two years ago, when he signed a new contract with the Penguins, Malkin stated that he would like to retire as a Penguin, he has seemingly changed his mind in the two seasons since this quote was made.
Evgeni Malkin said today he would like to retire as a #Penguins player. But.

«I understand it's a business. I love this city, I love these fans so much. But if the team wants young blood and new guys & says ‘you should move on', I'm fine.

«I hope I retire here» ⁦@KDKA
The news of Malkin's potential departure will upset many Pens fans around the league, and may lead to some important decisions by Sidney Crosby about his future in the NHL as well.
