Eric Staal's jersey is officially being retired by the Carolina Hurricanes, and his name and jersey number will be in the rafters forever.

Carolina Hurricanes fans rejoice, your beloved Eric Staal will be a legend in your town forever, as his #12 is going up in the rafters for good.
Eric Staal just signed a one-day contract with the Hurricanes so that he can retire as a member of their team. He was informed while signing this one-day contract that the franchise would also be retiring his jersey number, so no player will ever be allowed to wear his #12 again. What a special moment for Eric.
