The Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has officially started the contract talks with the free agent Tyler Bertuzzi.

According to David Pagnotta, Bertuzzi, who signed a one-year deal with the Leafs last summer, is currently negotiating to stay in Toronto:
"It's still very early in the process to project where this will go, but the #LeafsForever have started contract discussions with pending UFA winger Tyler Bertuzzi."
Bertuzzi had an uneven campaign this year. He scored 43 points in 80 games during the regular season, and four points in the playoffs.
While his impact in Toronto wasn't heavily reflected on the scoresheet, he significantly improved his teammates' performances. He was even compared to notable NHL players like Gustav Nyquist, Nino Niederreiter, Zach Hyman, and Tyler Toffoli, all of whom earn around $5 million a year.
That's why the Leafs should jump on the occasion to offer him a five years, $5 million AAV contract:
"While fan perception of Bertuzzi was up and down this season due to some lulls in point production, Bertuzzi was a very solid winger who made multiple core members better when they played with him. If they can get him between 5-5.5 AAV, it would be a smart signing. #LeafsForever"

Do you think the Toronto Maple Leafs would make a mistake by signing Tyler Bertuzzi to a multi-year contract?
