Toronto Maple Leafs fans, your worst fears have been realized. The team is likely losing their rights to defenseman Jani Hakanpaa just weeks after signing him.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed 6'7» defenseman Jani Hakanpaa to a 2 year, $1.5M AAV contract.
GM Brad Treliving signed Hakanpaa who agreed to a 2-year contract worth $3 million total and $1.5 million per season. However, almost three weeks after the deal, PuckPedia removed Hakanpaa from the Leafs' roster. It appears he didn't pass the necessary physical and medical clearances.
Speculation surrounds defenseman Jani Hakanpaa's signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs following a knee injury. Reports suggest doubts on his fitness, with concerns raised by hockey insiders including Mark Masters of TSN.
While this doesn't mean Hakanpaa is officially gone, it's not a good sign for Toronto. The Leafs will need to act fast to find a replacement for blueline depth. Yet this is why you can bank on the fact they already have their man from the Dallas Stars, Chris Tanev and Stanley Cup champion from the Florida Panthers Oliver Ekman-Larsson to anchor their defensive core.
