While the Leafs have done plenty of re-tooling this summer, the jobs not done with this roster, and it could mean a big Brad Treliving trade is around the corner.
In just a few short months this off-season, General Manager Brad Treliving has done a fantastic job of adding to the Maple Leafs blue line, with the additions of
Chris Tanev and
Oliver Ekman-Larsson giving them great defensive depth heading into the new season. Unfortunately, he hasn't done enough to bolster the forward group, and now, he may be needing to make a big trade to fix several holes on this roster before the 2024/25 chase for the Stanley Cup begins.
With that, Treliving has several tasks to achieve, most of all is finding a third-line center, whether that's clarifying the current lineup and adding a winger to go alongside their 3C or making a move, they need to find new depth down the middle. On top of that, the team have
Calle Jarnkrok,
David Kampf and
Ryan Reaves all standing in the way of their young talent, meaning a big trade needs to happen, with several teams out there willing to take on salary cap for the right price.
At the 2024 trade deadline, Treliving didn't make many significant moves, saving his assets for later down the line, but with the fans growing impatient of their poor playoff performances, the time is now for a blockbuster deal. It's unclear if Treliving believes he needs to make a move, with the team having a solid lineup thus far, but if they want to make it beyond the first round in 2024/25, they need another impact winger and a lineup set before puck drop on the season, so expect some major clarification soon, one way or another.
