If the Toronto Maple Leafs don't sign top defensive prospect Veeti Miettinen by August 15th, he will be come a free agent and free to sign with any team.

Veeti Miettinen isn't the only NCAA prospect the Leafs would lose if they don't agree to a contract within the next three days. Mike Koster would be another player that they would lose without a contract. Koster is a 23-year-old defenseman who had six goals and 29 points two years ago with the Gophers of the University of Minnesota. Last season, Koster took a step back and managed just 12 points. He also isn't the tallest of players, coming in at just 5'10.
Both Veeti Miettinen and Mike Koster would definitely add some nice depth at the defensive position for the Leafs organization. If people were placing bets, Koster would be the one that many feel would be able to make the NHL first over Miettinen, as he is further ahead in his development.
The leafs do have the room to sign both players this season as they only have 45 of 50 contract signed within their organization. Now that there are only a few days remaining before they lose the rights to both players, fans will be keeping a close eye as to whether they should wait, or go ahead and purchase a Veeti Miettinen and Mike Koster Leafs jersey.
