Sheldon Keefe just dropped a bomb on the Battle Of Ontario controversy.
Last Saturday's rivalry showdown between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators ended in chaos. Morgan Rielly unleashed a solid cross-check to Ridly Greig's face after Greig took a slap shot into the empty net, which secured a 5-3 win for the Senators. Rielly didn't have it and took exception to the empathizes put on the 73MPH clapper into the yawning cage when he could've gently tapped it in.

Controversy Reigns as Leafs' Rielly Faces Fallout for Cross-Check

Now, Rielly's under fire, possibly facing the NHL's wrath as he's due for an in-person hearing. You'd think the Leafs might not say what they genuinely believe, but head coach Sheldon Keefe did. When they asked him about the incident and Rielly's potential lengthy suspension, Keefe didn't hold back.
I was surprised. We spend a lot of time watching pretty much every cross-check that's happened in the last number of years, and the ones that I thought were similar in nature to Morgan's were nothing close to requiring that. But at the same time, there's a history of events that happened in Toronto and with the Leafs they get more attention, more hype. That tends to lead to something such as this. So, to that end, not surprised. It's out of our hands and we'll get ready to play tomorrow.
Unfortunately, a rematch between these clubs won't happen until next season. Fans shouldn't expect any carryover, especially with a long offseason between now and their next meeting.
