The Toronto Maple Leafs have been thrilled by their return from John Tavares since his arrival, but now, it appears things may be changing for their valued Captain.
John Tavares facing major demotion from Sheldon Keefe
Despite putting up another solid campaign thus far, it has now been revealed that John Tavares has officially been demoted by Head Coach Sheldon Keefe.
During their pre-game skate before a matchup with the Arizona Coyotes, John Tavares was skating on the third line instead of his usual second line center spot, with veteran Max Domi taking that role from him.
The demotion sees the 33-year old Tavares skating alongside promising young stars Bobby McMann and Nick Robertson, and while it's no doubt a major boost for both of them, it's not a great look for their captain.
It's uncertain whether or not this is just a one game experiment or whether Tavares will be stuck on the third line for the remainder of the year, but one thing is for certain and that is that Sheldon Keefe loves to make questionable lineup decisions.
We will watch and see how this pans out when the Maple Leafs take on the Arizona Coyotes, but with seemingly no defensive presence on that second line now, it's likely not going to last for long.
