The Toronto Maple Leafs have some promising forward prospects, but on the blue line, there's very little to speak of, and now, General Manager Brad Treliving is looking to change that.
According to a new report, the Toronto Maple Leafs have long been scouting the OHL, and now, they've found their target in the form of Oshawa Generals blue liner Connor Punnett.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing in at 202 pounds, it's easy to see why the team have interest in him, and when the window for CHL players to sign Entry Level Contracts opens on March 1st, they'll be in hot pursuit of the 20-year old.

On March 1st, teams can sign players to ELC's that begin next season. I could see Lisowsky getting done around then, but it also opens up the CHL Free Agent market
TOR hasn't really been involved there in recent years, but they've been heavily scouting D Connor Punnett
A productive young star in the OHL
Over the past two and a half years, Punnett has tallied 90 points in 119 games, and with the size to back up this production, he could be a massive piece of the future for the Maple Leafs.
With the current blue line being made up of veterans and plug-and-play young names, the Maple Leafs need a difference maker on defense, and with help likely coming via trade, Punnett would be the perfect addition to help them build the future.
