After years of trying to get
Ilya Samsonov to a great level, the Toronto Maple Leafs have let him walk in free agency, and will now go into the 2024/25 NHL season with Joseph Woll as the starter after he impressed in a big way during the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season. Now, the 26-year old is looking to mark his arrival as the teams starter, with a recent social media post revealing the beautiful new mask that he will debut in 2024/25.
As many in the comments of the post made clear, the mask gives vibes of 'Cujo', former Maple Leafs goaltender Curtis Joseph, who was known for his excellent play on the ice and his even better and more iconic masks. Sure, a good mask isn't going to improve your play on the ice, but this is one way that goaltenders are able to show off their personality, and with the designs often coming from passionate fans and hard working people, it makes them all that much more special.
After posting a solid .907 save percentage and a 2.94 GAA in 25 regular season games, Woll came alive in three playoff games against Boston, posting a 0.86 GAA and a .964 save percentage, so if this mask helps him bring more of that to the ice in the regular season, Maple Leafs fans will love it even more.
