The Toronto Maple Leafs look set to move on from Ilya Samsonov, with all signs pointing to the goalie leaving in free agency.
This probably doesn't surprise many Leafs fans, as Samsonov was inconsistent during his time with the team. They never knew which version of him would show up each night.

Sammy also underperformed compared to Joseph Woll in this year's playoffs. Now, new reports confirm that the Leafs and the netminder will part ways this summer.
With Samsonov out, the focus shifts to Woll. The 25-year-old played in 25 games this season, posting decent but not outstanding numbers: a .907 save percentage and a 2.97 goals-against average. Despite these average stats, many Leafs fans believe he can step up as the starting goalie next season.
He should be designated #1 next season. Give him a chance. Leafs won't be contenders for another 3-4 years.
However, the Leafs will likely be looking for another goalie this summer. The smart move would be to bring in a veteran who can handle the starter's workload if needed, allowing Woll to gradually settle into the role.
I'm confident he's part of the answer. You need a team of goalies to get through an 82 game season and a deep playoff run. Look Vegas last year or Vancouver this year! 🥅 #goaliegeek
Cam Talbot and Laurent Brossoit are among the top options in a relatively weak class of free-agent goalies this summer, both considered good fits for the Leafs. It's clear that GM Brad Treliving has a busy summer ahead.
