Set to become a free agent on July 1, the 40-year-old veteran Mark Giordano made an official decision for the 2024-25 season.
Giordano spent the last two years with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but his future with the team is uncertain.
General manager Brad Treliving will have tough decisions to make as we get closer to free agency. The Leafs have 11 free agents going into the offseason, including Giordano.
Last season, Giordano had the worst tally of his career, scoring nine points in 46 games. However, despite his drop in production and his age, it appears that he has decided to continue playing.
"Mark has made the decision that he's playing for a few more years. He feels very confident. He's been talking to a lot of people who tell him: Don't quit until they make you. He clearly wants to play."
He already accepted being paid near the League's minimum in the past two years. If he wants to stay in the NHL, he'll likely need to accept the same salary.
While he'd likely want to join a team with high Stanley Cup aspirations to get a chance to win it before retiring, he could be a valuable asset for a rebuilding team looking to develop young players.
