There is no question that Brad Treliving has been taking a stroll through his old home of Calgary to look for potential roster additions, especially with the highly sought-after Noah Hanifin being on the trade block. However, it has been revealed that the Flames are looking for at least a first-round pick for Hanifin, and with this year being such a sellers market, its likely that price is just a starting point.
This is a difficult situation for Brad Treliving and the Leafs, especially since Hanifin is set to become a free agent. He has 29 points in 50 games so far this year. What's worse, at this point in the season, the Leafs aren't necessarily looking like a team with a sure shot at making a long run in the postseason.
The major risk here is that the Leafs send away a future first-rounder and a prospect or young player for Hanifin, who doesn't help them in the playoffs this year and leaves anyway. We will see what Treliving can cook up in terms of a trade that doesn't risk the Leafs' future too much.
