The New York Islanders have not really improved much since Patrick Roy took over as head coach. However, the team is coming off a big victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Following the game, Patrick Roy had some interesting comments to share about his players.

Islanders Secure Key Victory Over Toronto Maple leafs

The Islanders defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs by a final score of 3-2 last night. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and improved the team's record to 2-2-1 under Roy.
The team was helped out by rookie forward Kyle MacLean, who scored his first career NHL goal on a beautiful move to beat Ilya Samsonov on a breakaway.
The Islanders now find themselves in the midst of an intense wild-card race. They improved their overall record to 21-17-12, giving them 54 points in 50 games played. They currently sit behind the Red Wings and Leafs in the Wild card race, both of whom have 58 points.

Roy Drops Hilarious Quote About Islanders Forward

Following the game, new head coach Patrick Roy had something to say about Bo Horvat. The Islanders forward got into a fight with Leafs defenseman Simon Benoit following a hit on Matthew Barzal that the former Canucks captain took exception to.

Roy compared Horvat to an eagle in his post-game presser, noting that he had two options, be an eagle, or be a duck.
The Islanders next play on Thursday when they kick off a four-game home stand against the Tampa Bay Lightning. It will be a critical home stand for the team as they continue to push for a playoff spot. Points wise, the team is right in the middle of it, but there are many teams that they are competing with for just two spots. Stay tuned throughout the season for more updates on the Islanders as they look to make the playoffs.
