Sheldon Keefe defended his team's effort after blowing a lead to the Carolina Hurricanes. Toronto, who was up both 3-0 in the 2nd period and 4-2 with under 1:30 in the 3rd, eventually lost 5-4 in a shootout after giving up 2 late goals, the tie goal coming with only seconds left.
Keefe gave some positive viewpoints later on despite the eventual loss, saying that while the Leafs couldn't close it out, the team still showed a lot of promise in the time they were leading.
The loss drops Toronto to a 38-18-9 record on the season, still 3rd in the Atlantic Division with 85PTS, 7 points ahead of 4th place Tampa Bay and 9 points back of the Florida Panthers for 2nd.
