Top prospect Landon DuPont roasts his beloved Leafs in Stanley Cup prediction
Everett Silvertips defenseman Landon DuPont threw some shade at the Toronto Maple Leafs during a recent interview, and Leafs fans might not love it.
DuPont, who's just 15 and already making waves in the WHL, being selected first overall after receiving exceptional status meaning he can enter junior hockey a year early, was asked who he thinks will win the Stanley Cup.
As a Leafs fan himself, he gave a defeated response. He joked that the Leafs are "already out" and that he might have to start cheering for the Vancouver Canucks instead.
It appears the Leafs' playoff struggles over the years have worn down even their most loyal supporters, including this rising star.
While Toronto is a Stanley Cup consider, hearing a top prospect express doubt about his own favorite team is a tough blow to swallow for Leafs Nation. Yet that's what happens when you haven't won the trophy since 1967.
Despite his comments, DuPont is making a name for himself on the ice.
Although he didn't find the back of the net in his league debut, the phenom turned heads with his raw talent and ability to stay calm under pressure, impressive for a defenseman his age.
He also set up his billet roommate, and 2025 NHL draft prospect Carter Bear, for a breakaway goal, earning his first WHL point.
He recently notched his first WHL point, an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Vancouver Giants, and he's projected to be a top pick in the 2027 NHL draft.
Let's just hope the boyhood faith in the Leafs returns before then!
