The Toronto Maple Leafs will play their debut game of the preseason tomorrow against the Ottawa Senators. Ahead of the game Brad Treliving, Craig Berube, and the Maple Leafs have cut down potential lineup options by sending down Sam McCue, Maxim Muranov, Miroslav Holinka, Marshall Finnie, and defenseman Nathan Mayes. Each of these players will be now sent back to the junior level playing in either the OHL or the WHL.
These cuts were all expected sooner or later. Each player would have had to make the final roster to not be sent back to juniors. With the junior hockey season about to get underway getting these players back to their squads early is likely better.
Despite not making it deep into training camp, each of these players has plenty of potential. All were 2024 NHL Draft picks and thought of highly by the organization.
After these five cuts, the Maple Leafs still have 70 players in training camp. Expect another wave of cuts after the Maple Leafs play their first preseason game against the Ottawa Senators.
As more information comes out regarding cuts, signings, or surprise players sticking around in training camp for the Toronto Maple Leafs we will provide all of the latest updates.
