Vegas Golden Knights superstar Alex Pietrangelo may have put his team at a major disadvantage heading into a potential Stanley Cup clinching game.
Pietrangelo left the penalty box he was stationed in at the end of regulation time after Game Four of the Stanley Cup Finals. He then went straight for Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk and engaged in a scrum.
This by definition is against the NHL rules as a player cannot leave the bench or penalty box area and immediately engage in a fight. This results in an automatic ten game suspension.
This rule is waived if the opponent if the aggressor.
NHL fans may remember that former Leaf David Clarkson was suspended for 10 games after leaving the bench to fight Buffalo Sabres enforcer John Scott during a preseason game.
Panthers fans have already felt cheated by officiating this series, so if Pietrangelo gets off Scott-free we should expect fireworks next game.
NHL Player Safety Head George Parros has a major decision to make ahead of Game Five on Tuesday.
