The Vegas Golden Knights have been exploiting loopholes in the NHL's LTIR process for the past few years (along with other teams), but at the recent trade deadline, the criticism of their process got much louder.

Kelly McCrimmon hits back at the critics of the Golden Knights

While many fans are upset that the Golden Knights continue to exploit the LTIR for their own gain, their General Manager has hit back at those criticisms on the latest episode of the Jeff Marek Show.
"Google 'lacerated spleen' and see if you can tell when a player is going to be back," he told "The Jeff Marek Show," referring to the ailment that's sidelined captain Mark Stone since late February. "It's ridiculous to suggest that these weren't significant injuries or aren't significant injuries.

"Furthermore, the National Hockey League polices all of this. The rules are the rules, the NHL watches this very carefully."

While it's impossible for a regular observer to be able to tell whether or not all the injuries are legitimate, it may ultimately just be coincidence that these players continue to get injured and recover in time, but the Golden Knights GM stands behind the process that the team has gone through.
"LTIR is collectively bargained between the Players' Association and the NHL," he said. "The idea behind it is, if you have a player suffer a significant injury, you can replace that player. Obviously from there, it's the timing of injuries."

Ultimately, the NHL has allowed all of this to happen, and unless there is collusion between the league and the Golden Knights, what has happened with the team is legal under the CBA, so it's tough to criticize a team that's using every possible rule to gain an advantage.
