Although it won't be official until July, Insider Elliotte Friedman confirms that the Washington Capitals are set to buy the popular CapFriendly website.

Both the Capitals and CapFriendly want the site to stay publicly available and independently operated through the 2024 NHL Draft and the start of free agency. So, the sale won't be finalized until at least July 5.
Dominik Zrim, the website's co-owner and director, has previous experience working in the NHL for the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks
NHL teams using CapFriendly's tools and API were recently notified that their contracts would be terminated, sparking speculation that a team was buying the site. All signs point to the Capitals.
It's easy to see why a team would want this infrastructure and once the sale is complete, the website will go offline for good.
CapFriendly came onto the scene in 2015 after CapGeek, created by Matthew Wuest, shut down. Wuest, who built an invaluable resource, passed away from colon cancer in March 2015. CapFriendly quickly became an excellent replacement for fans and media. Now it's gone and we're at the end of an era.
